Reactive Power & Energy Efficiency. Why is Reactive Power Important for Energy Efficiency?
Kilovolt-Ampere Reactive
Reactive Power (kVArh) is the difference between working power (active power measured in kW) and total power consumed (apparent power measured in kVA). Some electrical equipment requires an amount of 'reactive power' in addition to 'active power' in order to work more energy efficiently. KVAR is the number at the top of the mathematical problem. The higher the power factor your property has to the number 1, the more efficient the home is. For example, if your business has a .67 power factor rating, you are likely paying more than you have to for energy. But what about home owners? Are they billed for this too? The answer may surprise you. Electricity power bills are constantly rising on a day to day basis thus denting our pockets and wallets in these harsh economic times. Electrical energy has been one of the greatest discoveries of the century and life without electric power in unimaginable. From the use of the vacuum cleaner to clean the house in a matter of minutes to a spick and span standard to the washing machine that washes clothes at the touch of a button. Then there's that lovely dish washer that comes in handy after a heavy delicious meal. The list goes on and on. These are among the many electrical appliances that make our day to day living more comfortable. The sad bit of the above scenario is that they are all powered by electricity. Hence, the good life comes at a cost which continues to impede our comfortable lifestyle. The appliances normally run on 110 volts in the United States or 220-250 volts in other parts of the world. This AC (Alternating Current) Power source flows in a Sine wave to create both magnetic power as well as power itself. When not in use it loses some energy in form of reactive power measured in KVAR (Kilo Volt Ampere Reactive). The KVAR is the power factor that measures how efficient and effective an appliance or gadget is. The higher the power factor number measured in KVAR the more efficient and the lower the power factor (KVAR) the less effectiveness and efficiency. These power losses can be controlled and improved by adding power saving gadgets such as the Electric Saver 1200. The biggest culprits of this power reactive loss are the inductive power users i.e. Central Air Conditioning Systems, Heat Pumps, Swimming Pool motors, Refrigeration, fluorescent lighting, as well as motor in heavy machinery like Elevators, Escalators, and power tools. And there are those reports of Power Factor not making a difference on residential homes at all. Are they true or false?
While it is true that homeowners are not billed power factor penalties or for apparent power, homeowners ARE billed for inefficient appliances and a/c systems that are still in use. Your power company has no way of knowing whether that refrigerator in your beautiful kitchen is from 1972 or 2017. The only way you are billed for your appliances and energy is by your USAGE. If your appliances and air conditioning system are not running as efficiently as possible, you might as well go out to your back yard and light a couple hundred dollar bills on fire every few months. Because that's what you are giving to your power company by not taking action and making your home or business as energy efficient as possible. If you are ready to just say no to burning $100 bills every few months, click the link below: Why Else Should I Use A KVAR device?- Safeguarding and regulating power surges and spikes during black outs and brown outs. This cost cutting measure protects electrical equipment from getting damaged, deters any fire calamity that might destroy your property or even the loss of life.
- Efficiency and effectiveness of electrical appliances is improved by less overheating and running cooler, this ensures that they will last longer and give optimal service.
- Reduced Kilowatt Consumption on the Overall Property, thus saving you from overbilling from energy you weren't able to use.
- Power Factor Penalty Removed from Energy Bills (for those commercial customers that are billed a penalty)
Why is improving the overall power factor on my property a good idea?
Because now your property is ONLY billed for energy it actually uses and not 1 penny more to the power company! To find out more visit our website today!
