Where are the REAL Energy Vampires in Your Home?

Overloaded Electrical OutletBrought to you by: Electric Saver 1200   Ever wondered why you turn all the lights off and unplug all your appliances and devices and STILL don't seem to save any money?  Well wonder no more, this post is all about finding those little energy vampires.   If you'd like even more ways to lower energy bills go to: http://www.electricsaver1200.com/bills/ways-to-conserve-electricity/

Even when you turn off your electronics, they could still be wasting electricity. When you press the off switch, many electronics, like televisions, DVRs and satellite boxes, go into stand-by mode.

During stand-by mode, electronics don't turn off completely. They perform updates, record your favorite shows and generally just wait for you to come back, sucking up energy as they do. This is called stand-by power or phantom load. The energy lost is called vampire energy or leaking energy.

beat the heat: ways to conserve energy

According to the US Department of Energy, your electricity wasters account for 10 percent or more of your electricity bill. It would explain how Jason Cipriani ended up saving $840 per year on his electricity bill. Televisions, DVRs and satellite boxes aren't the only energy users. Chances are, you have several chargers around your home and they stay plugged in 24/7. Phone chargers use around .26 watts of energy per day when plugged in, but not in use. Laptop chargers also waste, using 4.42 watts when not in use and 29.48 watts when it's plugged into a fully charged laptop.

Test your home for excess energy usage

Want to see if your home is affected by leaking energy? Turn off your AC or heating unit and your hot water heater. Now, turn off everything in your home, but leave them plugged in. Then, go look at your electric meter box that's typically located on the side of your home. Are the numbers still going up? If they are, that means that your devices are still sucking electricity. Another, more straightforward approach is to use a device like the Kill-A-Watt or the Belkin WeMo Insight Switch, which lets you measure energy usage when the device is plugged into them.

So How Do You Stop Those Little Energy Vampires?

You can do it a couple of different ways. energy-loads1) you can manually go around your home unplugging all the little appliances, cell phone charges, dvd players, etc. not in use. 2) You can use power strips.  Some you can just press a switch and they power strip is off.  There are even smart power strips like the Conserve Switch AV Surge Protector that you can turn off from across the room. images-3   3) You can use energy saving devices that impact the largest motors in your home and save WAY more than you would save by using either of the first 2 options.  But, the choice is always yours.  To learn more about the energy saving device, visit our site today. SNEAKY DEMAND CHARGES & WHAT THEY REALLY COST YOU!

kwh average costDepending on where you live in the United States or abroad, depends on how much you will pay for electricity.  Rates vary from state to state, and some states even have tiered pricing based on your usage or time you use it.  Some states are deregulated which means you can choose which provider to use for better rates. But if you are unlucky like me, and live in a state where you cannot choose which energy company to use, analyzing your power bill, and finding out how much each appliance, light, etc. costs in your home or business is vital to lowering your energy costs.  For a more in-depth look, visit: http://www.electricsaver1200.com/bills/  Ever wonder why your bill is so high and yet your neighbors isn't?  Below we will discuss a few key things that will help stop those sky high power bills from landing in YOUR mailbox.

DEMAND CHARGES & HOW THEY CAN DRIVE UP YOUR POWER BILL

High ElectricityIf you analyze your bill and see that you are being billed for "demand charges" this can be handled by incorporating some new habits &/or gadgets into your home.  For example: If you run the dishwasher in the afternoon before the kids come home from school (like many do throughout daily chores), you could be spending more on energy costs than running that same dishwasher load late at night or 1st thing in the morning.  Find out what times are peak energy times from your energy provider and work your household into demanding less electricity from your provider during those times.

HOT WATER & ENERGY COSTS

Another thing you can do is, add a hot water heater timer to your home.  Make sure all those in the home know to either shower in the evenings or 1st thing in the morning... that is if they want hot showers!  By planning your laundry/dishes/ and other water uses around the timer, you can pay less for energy as your hot water heater isn't working 24/7 anymore.  With hot water being #2 on the list for what accounts for your power bill, this is definitely something you can implement to lower energy costs. hot water-energy saving tips
hot water heater-energy saverSpeaking of hot water, you don't have to wash EVERY load of laundry in hot water.  You can wash all your laundry in cold water, except the heavily soiled/stained items.   The less you use, the less your hot water heater needs to heat which drives down your electricity bill too.. And you can always switch to a more energy efficient and cost effective tankless hot water heater.  The heater only heats the water as you need it.  If you switch to a tankless hot water heater, you will NEVER run out of hot water, and you won't need a timer as it doesn't need to heat water and hold it in a tank 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.  We LOVE our tankless water heater for hot steamy showers to ease that aching back in the morning & endless hot bubble baths to soothe our feet/neck in the evenings ;-) We hope you enjoyed this blog post, as much as we enjoyed you being here!  Be sure to follow our blog.  To get more information on power bills and how to lower your energy costs EASILY, visit Electric Saver 1200 Today!   Save Save
